When was the last time you heard the name Junior Dos Santos? It was probably at an Eagle FC fight. The former UFC heavyweight champion was looking good and was on his way to winning the fight against Yorgan De Castro. However, he ended up with a dislocated right shoulder and needed medical attention. The bout was stopped at 0:35 in Round 3.
Dos Santos, now aged 41, was hoping to reinvent himself with a new promotion, Eagle FC. However, he ended up dislocated his shoulder in the main event. The dislocation left Junior with a complicated injury that cost him his fight. He dropped to 21-10 overall and lost his fifth straight bout. Although the UFC was a big part of his life, he is still dissatisfied with the way things are going.
After the fight, Dos Santos remained angry and tried to pop his shoulder back into place. But it didn’t work. He was then forced to concede the fight. On social media, he posted a post about his injury. Eventually, he was able to get back to work and was congratulated. However, it wasn’t an easy fight for Junior Dos Santos.
After the loss to Gane in December 2020, the UFC dismissed Dos Santos. The UFC’s decision came as a surprise to many fans. Dos Santos had beaten Francis Ngannou and former champion Jairzinho Rozenstruik during this period. He had to withdraw from four fights in a row after the loss, but he has expressed frustration with the UFC behind the scenes.
The UFC isn’t the only show in town. After his release, dos Santos focused on the bigger picture of his career. He signed a contract with the promotion Triad Combat to fight a lightweight opponent. That fight was originally scheduled to happen in February and would have paid dos Santos a lot more than he earned in the UFC. That deal was later cancelled due to dos Santos’ dislocated shoulder.
The bout was stopped before the end of the first round. Junior Dos Santos was dominated with his boxing skills. He tagged Lewis with a right hand early in the second round and tried to cover up. At the 1:58 mark in the second round, the referee waved the fight off. Junior Dos Santos is now three-fight-winner. After the loss to Lewis, he should look to fight a top-ranked opponent.
